Bram were you being serious about teh American Idol for artists??!!
I always thought that there should be a reality show called Solo, it would feature folks like Shepard, Banksy, and anyone else who might bring in ratings, though if Banksy were a featured artist he would probably appear as a tall black obelisk since he wants to obscure his identity. The show would follow different artist around while they made work and prepared for their show.
That is an ambitious canvas Bram! Wow, you are a beast!
How much did you say lessons were?
I'm sure we could work something out.
here is a link to the Saatchi show, though I doubt you will be able to watch it outside the UK.
Edit - oops -those sizes were centimetres not inches, that would have been ambitious! (getting my inches and centimetres mixed up is a habit that I've had all my life

What is the scale of that painting? Do you work primarily with a brush or pallet knife?
I always liked the breakdown on the meaning behind the Mona Lisa.
Ah, looking for tips are we? I charge for lessons
50 inch x 70 on canvas. Acrylic and charcoal. I love to work with a knife but when the magic leaves me, I pick up a brush (rule one, always blame it on the tools)
The red strokes are symbolmatic of the famous elements of the Mona Lisa (enigmatic smile, no eyebrows.). We live in a snapshot world where everything needs pigeon holeing and summarizing in milliseconds as in "Mona Lisa = enigmatic smile, no eyebrows, right what's next, Sistine Chapel = nice roof"
My Mona sits more aggressively, mirroring the change in today's society (look at the last few weeks posts to see the evidence of such changes )
It came about after watching a tv show about Charles Saatchi's American Idol for artists. I thought about how if Da Vinci would have "auditioned" would he have been selected. This got me thinking that if he was in Art School today, how would he paint (not like this you answer )
I could go on but I am working on a re-work of Thunder

Really glad to hear the comments on the new work. I am working on a number of new themes and have to say that though they are draining to work on I really think they feel like home.
Stay tuned for more, though you might have to wait for Jonathan to send out the preview, I don't want to steal his thunder

An interesting thought....If Da Vinci was a living contemporary artist, how would he portray the Mona Lisa? Which medium would he use etc and would Saatchi think he was just another artist?

If its half as good as the quality of the prints this should turn out looking awesome. I like the idea of a signed version (if its possible), always think it adds that little bit extra seems to give it a personal touch.

Drastic times have called for drastic measures, and I need to sell my print. I can't afford to get it framed right now, and would hope that it reaches someone that really wants it.
Please send me a PM with a reasonable offer, including shipping in the US. I received the print rolled, and it will be shipped rolled in an extra sturdy tube.

We'll have some photos up shortly.
It's a 48 page hardcover catalogue on the Sprout exhibition. There are a few additional images included, from those works that are considered to be a part of that greater body of work.

Great news to see this finally happening. Well done to Josh and Dave for finding the time to put it together.
Any chance of a signed edition for us loyal forum members that have been pushing for the compilation of this thing? I'd certainly pay a premium for a signed edition
Re: BOOK! (Sprout) « Result #54 on Nov 25, 2009, 3:48am »
Super exciting news! Hopefully in an edition of 1000 as well, there will be plenty to go round! As an aside I notice that there are less than 20 copies of the call left. It is a fantastic print, and would strongly reccomend anyone who hasn't already to grab it before it's gone!
From the latest DBS email: "In addition, the Gallery will have sample copies of the first hardcover book on the work of Josh Keyes. Sprout will be released in an edition of 1000, and available for purchase online in mid-December. A work by Josh Keyes will also be on display."
How about some more details! Awesome.
This is the one we have all been waiting for. Hope it lives up to expectations.

It's All About the ART! « Result #60 on Nov 22, 2009, 6:37am »
To re-balance the bad vibe that seems to creeping into our normally chilled art forum, I thought it may be a good idea to get back to what it's all about, the art itself.
So how about periodically posting a JK (or any other artist for that matter) to talk about the piece in question.
I will start the ball rolling with this piece. What interpretation do you have. Where would you rate it amongst his portfolio and did you see it in person.

Just seen it next door on .info - Did you get a new camera? Looks fantastic Mr S. Great idea to redecorate - the problem will come when you put Guardian next to it - you will have to do half the wall green
Good job and you have won the "dedication to a Josh Keyes print of the week award"
i'm sure good people have been hooked up by other good people on this forum through the b/s/t here.... it just needs a bit of moderating - or as sky suggests, a starting price should really be stated in the thread. fixed prices - no poa's or make believe dutch auctions - i had that with someone a few years back, trying to drive a price up artificially after we agreed a deal with an imaginary buyer.... a$$hole. i told him to roll his print up very tight and stick it up his arse. needless to say, i was offered the item at the original agreed price a couple of days later, but i told him i didn't want something that had been up his pooter, as it would not be 'mint' anymore.
also, know your seller people. if they post stupid comments on a forum like this, they will probably act stupid when trying to haggle you up in price.

Got my JK back from Mr Frameman the other week and spent last Sunday hanging them on the wall. Will post pics this weekend really please with how all the prints have come out so I may post a few pics of the none JK as well if thats okay with others.
Can't wait to see the pics of the JK's framed! (Do we have a seperate thread for misc framed works? haven't seen one) Love everything Mr.Framerman does, he only frames in the UK, correct?

I'll say it again, a seller stating a price in the original post solves all of the problems. If the price is high, it won't sell. If it's in someone's wheelhouse, then it will.
Simple as that really. All of the other art boards that I frequent (phishposters, thegiant, expressobeans) it's pretty much standard protocol. I think the Banksy board is the only where most people are OK with sellers saying 'send me offers'. Maybe that's why the thought has come over here too.
$.02
I have to agree Sky its a simple case that your offering a print out on a board full of collectors who have an idea on what the current price is, so put it on the listing. Framing is all about personal taste the frame on the print may not be to the buyers taste so that should not be included in the price, just offered at extra.
I have just finished The Path of Infinite Sorrow (Japanese perspective on the Kokoda Track in World War 2) also Hi Fructose Magazine collected edition and Animation in Process (my work is in it!)

Hmmm, to be honest with you, I like having a FS/FT/LTB part of the forum. I'm sure that there are forum members who have gotten great deals and sellers who'd rather hook up a forumer than deal with eBay.
Perhaps a sticky at the top for sellers, letting them know that an asking price must be stated?

I think this section of the forum, as Antz says should be knocked on the head. I for one do not look here to buy a keyes print as we all know the going rate and do not wish to sell for less. Having said that if you agree a price on here then thats what you should sell at, if you were happy at the time with that offer then why try and squeeze out more money. It makes you look like a T.I.T.
Re: It's all gotta go.....again « Result #80 on Nov 18, 2009, 6:16pm »
Sorry Gents, I had to call this guy out (4puttzzz). He made me very frustrated when I wanted to buy his tic toc print... and it seemed as if he was doing it again to others on the board with all of his prints.... We all share a common interest in Keyes art. There are a lot of good posts on here but they get ruined by idiots trolling only for indications of interest... then reneging on for reasons like "recalculating framing costs".... or saying someone is about to pay so you better dive in and pay first... or send me a PM with an offer but do not tell the moderators.... etc.. etc... If you want to break away from the board do it.... you dont have to try... just do it.... you really want to sell your prints... go to ebay.....
Re: It's all gotta go.....again « Result #85 on Nov 17, 2009, 6:47pm »
My opinion is simply to analyse Mr. fourputt and see if he is who you want to deal with/give your money to. If you don't and others agree he won't get to sell his prints and on the other hand he may to those who like his 'methods'.
My initial dealings made me feel like I did not want to give him my money so I left. Simple business really. I don't need a Josh print so badly I will deal with an a-hole to get one (not saying/implying you are an a-hole Mr fourputt).
The knife fight is fun to watch though I must say.
Good lord, this is why I tried to get off this forum a while back. I had to keep my beak in so I could eventually sell these things. I am praying for the day that I no longer have to be a member here.
I don't normally get involved in these kind of threads, but the comment above really disappointed me.
These art related forums are made richer, deeper and more fun by a lot of people who, with their time and posts, provide a lot to an International group of people with nothing more in common than a shared interest.
Your post makes it sound like you tolerate the lot of us in the hope that one day, we'll buy your prints.
I'd like to think that you don't really mean that, but, I always tend to look on the positive side of life. Maybe there really are people that cynical out there.
Easiest way to solve the problem is for sellers to SET PRICES.
"accepting offers via PM" is annoying and basically a lame way to have a silent auction. If want to auction prints off put them on EBAY.
It's like saying I'll sell my prints, but only if the price is high enough. Set your price or take it to the bay.
and the whole "I'll put them here first so collectors have a chance" argument is BS. We all have access to eBay, and some people would actually prefer an eBay auction because they have some recourse if you try to screw them over.

4-putzzz.... dude you are the coward.... and you post more stupid sh*t on here than anyone else.... you tried to get off this board??? Good insult too..... "you dont deserve to own anything from josh".... That actually sounds weird... I feel bad for all you people out there who went back and forth with this Putzzz and wasted time.....
I threw a number out there and then 12 hours later after calculating my costs I revised it. That sounds like a pretty crappy thing to do to me. Was it so hard to calculate your framing cost? Was it done in pieces by master elves and billed through 11 different accounts?
That part about master elves and billing through 11 different accounts was hilarious!!!
Anyhow, come on, when you change the price after you put one out there due to 'revised' framing costs and the like, come on, that's a form of bait and switch. That's just a sneaky (but not so clever way) of jerking people around.
Just sell on ebay if you are looking for the highest prices.
